The UCLA Film & Television Archive(opens in a new tab) is offering a hands-on workshop on small film gauge handling and preservation for interested undergraduates in any degree program. No experience necessary! Lunch will be provided. Much of our cinematic heritage was originally recorded on small gauge film, barely larger than a fingernail, which requires specialized treatment for preservation over the larger "standard gauge" 35mm film. This workshop will cover approaches to handling 16mm, 8mm and Super 8mm film for archiving and preservation. Participants will have the opportunity for hands-on experience, including basic repair and splicing. We will also discuss considerations for digitization and restoration.
Instructor: Brian Belak(opens in a new tab), Preservationist, UCLA Film & Television Archive
Workshop will be held at the IS Library and Media Preservation Lab(opens in a new tab), UCLA Department of Information Studies.
Enrollment is limited. Please register by November 13(opens in a new tab).
