What drew you to UCLA and to this role in particular?

I am a UCLA alumna (MLIS 2005), I have an academic and professional background in visual arts and design, and my experience as a librarian includes reference and instruction, liaison and collection development coordination, outreach, and administration. The Arts, Music, and Powell (AMP) Director oversees the intersection of all these areas, and felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

What do you see as the central role of the Arts, Music and Powell Libraries at UCLA?

Together, the Arts, Music and Powell Libraries represent the full range of what UCLA Library can offer our students, faculty, and research community. The librarians and staff at these libraries offer both scalable, far-reaching services (such as True Bruin Welcome, asynchronous tutorial development, embedded information literacy programs, and a wide network of peer research support) that serve all undergraduates at UCLA, and high-touch experiences (specialized disciplinary research and instruction support and programming highlighting the unique collections at Arts and Music).

What are your goals for your first year?

I am a connector, and my highest priority will be establishing relationships and collaborations both across UCLA Library and across campus to support my team in serving our community most effectively. I plan to do a lot of listening.

Is there anything you learned as a UCLA student and Library that you will bring to this role?

My very first job in a library was in the Arts Library 20 years ago! Coming back to campus, I humbly observe how important it is for those of us with experience in academic libraries to remember how overwhelming our spaces, services, and collections can feel to a new student or researcher.
