Dear Friends of UCLA Library,

Despite the challenges facing UCLA, the Library is working every day to deliver on our promise to advance UCLA’s academic mission and to put education and our students—the next generation of leaders, healers and creators—first.

Building, collecting, distributing and connecting people with knowledge is something the Library does on an unmatched scale campus-wide. Our collections power UCLA research—if it’s something people can study, learn from or build a curriculum around, we have it—from the latest online journal chronicling leading-edge cancer research to the most rare, unique materials from antiquity. And they are accessible online, onsite or both.

With the expertise of our librarians and staff and support from donors like you, these collections don’t just stay within the walls of our libraries, in storage or in an online database. Library materials fuel student success and advance UCLA’s groundbreaking research, including life-saving innovations that have benefited people across the nation.

In the words of Chancellor Frenk, the Library is the “heart of UCLA.” The Library is essential to the university’s efforts to overcome the challenges ahead. We will continue focusing on our priorities—the 46,000 plus students returning to UCLA or embarking on their higher-education journeys this month.

As always, I welcome your calls or emails, your advice and encouragement as we remain united behind the Library and protecting the mission of UCLA. Thank you for your support.

Best regards,

Athena N. Jackson
