Some days my focus \nis on working with possible donors to see if their collections are good \nadditions for UCLA Library Special Collections. As a staff member in Library Special Collections, I also \nparticipate in instruction, introducing students to our collections and \nhow to research them. People are either donating their \nown life’s work, or the life’s work of one of their loved ones, so there\n is often an emotional element to the process of acquiring collections. \nIt’s something we need to respect and give space to in the archival \nprocess.\u003C/p>","What is one aspect of the job of an archivist that is often not included in the job description?",{"id":305,"typeHandle":271,"richText":306,"sectionTitle":307},"2553613","\u003Cp>One thing that often ends up in collections are \nfood related items. Once, I believe I even ran across something that had water \nin it! I will admit to a \npreference to materials that relate to Los Angeles history, particularly\n anything that has to do with the older areas of the city, like Olvera \nStreet.
